Courion employees break fundraising records for local charities
More than $30,000 raised to benefit STEM Education in Boston Public Schools and The Neely Foundation for Cancer Care
WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Courion Corporation, the leader in risk-driven identity and access management (IAM), today announced that its 2012 employee auction has raised over $30,000 for local charities. This amount marks yet another record in fundraising for Courion, exceeding last year's total. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to support the efforts of the Neely Foundation for Cancer Care and to foster Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education efforts at the Curley K-8 School in Jamaica Plain.
Every November, Courion employees participate in the company's annual charity auction. With items such as a weekend getaway at a Maine beach house to autographed sports memorabilia; dozens of restaurant and retail gift cards; and services donated by employees such as a barbeque with all the fixings delivered to the winner's home, or lunch made once a week for 26 weeks — these and other items donated by local businesses, partners and Courion employees were just a few of the sought-after offerings Courion employees had the opportunity to bid on while raising money for worthy causes.
To complement the traditional live and silent auctions, a variety of gift basket raffles were very popular, boasting themes such as Fiesta Time, Night at the Movies, Boston Beer, Everything Bacon, Wine Lovers, and Crafted by Courion to name a few.
Courion is committed to giving back to the community by supporting education, social services, local charities and foundations. The CourionCares™ program, which includes the annual auction, is a companywide philanthropic initiative for local organizations in need.
In addition to the auction, Courion employees raise money throughout the year with laptop auctions, bake sales and chili cook-offs, and by sponsoring a row at the yearly Comics Come Home benefit for the Cam Neely Foundation, as well as through SnackCourier, which donates proceeds from refreshments purchased by Courion employees to charities year round.
"Once again the Courion team has stepped up and impressed with its generosity and commitment to helping others," said Chris Zannetos, president and CEO of Courion. "I am proud of the time and energy Courion staff puts in to making the CourionCares program a success, whether it's the annual auction or the many other activities they drive throughout the year.
These are two very important causes for us at Courion. Many of our staff and families have had to battle cancer. We are grateful for the opportunity to support the efforts of the Neely Foundation to help families through such a difficult period. As a software company, we are also concerned that our country is lagging in developing engineering talent, and hope that we can help in a small way to inspire students to explore math and science."
Other CourionCares activities include supporting science contests, career education programs, and service learning trips for inner city schools, back to school supplies and holiday gift drives. Courion staff has personally contributed over $190,000 since the inception of the program.
Another component of the initiative is the CourionCares Program for Non-Profits, which awards complimentary software licenses to a qualified non-profit organization each year for Identity and Access Management (IAM) software to manage user access, demonstrate access policy compliance and improve IT security. Courion is currently accepting nominations of worthy non-profit organizations for the 2013 CourionCares for Non-Profit award.
